General rules

What you need to qualify

NSC & equivalent entry

All Diplomas and Degrees require a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or IEB school-leaving certificate certified by Umalusi, a pre-2008 Grade 12 certificate with university exemption, or a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4. Preliminary admission uses your final Grade 11 results; final admission uses your final Grade 12 results.

Postgraduate entry

Advanced Diplomas, Postgraduate Diplomas, Honours, Master’s and Doctoral programmes are not APS-based — entry is based on your prior qualification (typically the equivalent Diploma, Bachelor’s, Honours or Master’s degree), often with a minimum average in the relevant major modules.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & credit transfer

Applicants without the standard entry qualification may apply for admission under UMP’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy, or for Credit Accumulation and Transfer (CAT) if credits were earned at another institution — indicate this on your application and submit an official transcript.
